2021 Inglenook Edizione Pennino Zinfandel Rutherford Napa Valley

Inglenook Vineyard was founded in 1879 by Gustav Nibbe. A native of Finland, Gustav used his vast fortune to bring European grapevines to Napa. Under the leadership of the legendary John Daniel, the winery spent decades crafting wines that would eventually earn the highest acclaim. However, by the time Francis Coppola and his wife Eleanor purchased part of the property in 1975, the Inglenook name had been sold off and the winery had fallen into disrepair. Over the course of 20 years, the Coppolas gradually bought back the vineyards that had been sold off, invested in winemaking facilities, and renovated the historic Inglenook chateau. Inglenook has now been restored to its former glory and has once again risen to become one of America’s great wineries. Then, in April 2011, Francis Ford Coppola acquired the trademark rights to “Inglenook,” Napa’s iconic winery, from The Wine Group. Since then, Rubicon Estate, a renowned winery in Napa Valley, has been reborn under the historic name “Inglenook.” Since that same year, Philippe Bascoul, a winemaker who spent over 20 years under the late Paul Pontallier—director of Château Margaux, one of Bordeaux’s First Growths—has been in charge of winemaking at Inglenook. Bascolle holds a degree in agricultural science and studied oenology at graduate school in Montpellier. Since March 2017, Philippe Bascolle has served concurrently as Managing Director of Château Margaux and Director of Winemaking at Inglenook. The name "Rubicon," Inglenook’s flagship proprietary wine, will remain unchanged, and Bascoul, who has a background in Old World winemaking, will lead the winemaking team dedicated to this great New World wine, "Rubicon." Bascoul will continue winemaking while maintaining contact with Stéphane Durnoncourt, a renowned winemaking consultant from Pomerol. In addition to the Cabernet Sauvignon, now known as the second wine, a new third wine, “I882,” is being produced. Furthermore, starting with the 2013 vintage, recently planted Sauvignon Blanc on the estate has been added to the lineup, and further development is anticipated.
