Tasting notes
Super opulent, intense wildflowers, dark red fruit, cherry cobbler, raspberry, and strawberries with hints of Asian spice, leather, and minerals as with them all they are whole berry fermented in the finest French oak barrels and some small open top fermenters.
This is a medium bodied wine packed with elegant subtle notes, perfect for summer and early fall or with meals where subtly and complexity must dance across the palate. I love it. —JAYSON WOODBRIDGE
Viticulture
Each hillside vineyard site is chosen for the generous slope, unique sequence of Goldridge soils, ranging from 900-1900 feet above sea level, and microclimate to add dimension to the wines. A rare, fine-grained sandy loam, Goldridge soils are known for excellent drainage, and a characteristically light and fluffy texture. Some of the particularly unique sites have Goldridge layered on top of ancient seabed where finding fossils in the soil is not unusual and a clay content that helps the soil retain precious moisture during the growing season. The coastal climate of the region is marked by warm, dry summers and cool, damp winters.
APPELLATION
West Sonoma Coast ; Annapolis and Fort Ross-
Seaview sub-regions
VARIETAL BLEND
100% Pinot Noir CLONES 777, a more fruit-driven clone, but delicate in flavor
Vinification
FERMENTATION
Whole berry fermented in a mix of puncheons and open top tanks
COOPERAGE
Vosges Forest with a mix of Demptos and Taransaud barrels, an unusual selection for Pinot but it’s from coopers and forest sites
that Jayson has been working with for decades. The wood from Vosges is very blonde (white) in color and tight grained.
BOTTLING
Unfined
