Tasting notes

Wonderful balance for this Occidental Area of the Sonoma Coast. Ripe and fresh dark fruit, forest flowers, intense cherry with hints of spice layered into a very full-bodied rich wine fermented in puncheon barrels from the finest French oak and some micro-open top fermenters. This wine is very fine tannins and acidity, perfect integration for cellaring for 10+ years, but drinking like a champion right now too. Rock Star. —JAYSON WOODBRIDGE

Production

Viticulture

Each hillside vineyard site is chosen for the generous slope, unique sequence of Goldridge soils, ranging from 900-1900 feet above sea level, and microclimate to add dimension to the wines. A rare, fine-grained sandy loam, Goldridge soils are known for excellent drainage, and a characteristically light and fluffy texture. Some of the particularly unique sites have Goldridge layered on top of ancient seabed where finding fossils in the soil is not unusual and a clay content that helps the soil retain precious moisture during the growing season. The coastal climate of the region is marked by warm, dry summers and cool, damp winters.

FERMENTATION
Whole berry fermented in a mix of puncheons and open top tanks

COOPERAGE
Vosges Forest with a mix of Demptos and Taransaud barrels, an unusual selection for Pinot but it’s from coopers and forest sites
that Jayson has been working with for decades. The wood from Vosges is very blonde (white) in color and tight grained.
